The Denison Men and Women's Swimming program is a name that is always associated with success. Behind that success lays J. Gregg Parini who has been at the helm of both squads for 20 years. Garnering many awards as well as being a part of a wide variety of activities, Parini has set the standard not only for Denison Swimming but for the Denison lifestyle.

Some of Parini's most outstanding accomplishments in coaching include:

2001 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Champions
40-straight top-10 finishes at the NCAA Division III Championships
Coached over 200 All-Americans to over 1500 All-American performances
Coached 20 swimmers who have gone on to earn NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships
Coached two swimmers to US Olympic Trial Qualifying Performances in eight events
Coached one athlete (Darius Grigaliunas) to the Olympic Games in Athens, 2004
Coached 40 consecutive Denison teams that earned Team All-Academic honors
Coached 150 plus individual Academic All-Americans at Denison
Led Denison's Men's Swimming to it's first ever NCAC title in 1997
Led Denison's Women's Swimming to it's first-ever NCAA title in 2001
Seven-time North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming Coach of the Year
Seven-time NCAA Division III Swimming Coach of the Year
While not just a top-notch coach, Parini has also played a dominant role outside the pool. He has served on many on-campus committees and been active in other campus functions.

Some of his involvement has incorporated activities such as:

Associate Professor of physical education, teaching exercise physiology and sports psychology
Department Representative of the Personnel Evaluation Committee in the Denison Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation
Awarded the Charles A. Brickman Teaching Excellence Award at the 2007 Denison Academic Awards Convocation

Athletic Department Representative for the Board of Trustees Recruiting Panel
Faculty Representative for the DenisonUniversity Judicial Board
Co-Coordinator of Administrative Policy Review Committee for the Substance Abuse Task Force
Parini's involvement with swimming has spread beyond the boundaries of Granville to a variety of camps and clinics throughout the United States even extending to a National Coaching Advisor for the Isle of Mauritius. Some of his other involvements in athletics in and outside Denison consist of:

Parini began his coaching career in 1984 as a volunteer assistant Women's coach at MichiganStateUniversity, where he earned his M.A. in Counseling Psychology. Since then he has held coaching positions for the Upper Arlington (OH) Swim Club, Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach at Mount Union College, Head Boys' and Girls' coach for both East Lansing High School and club teams.

A large wake was left by Parini during his college years as a swimmer at rival KenyonCollege. A tri-captain for the 1981-82 season, he lead the team to its third NCAA crown in as many years. He was an 18-time All-American as well as a 7-time Division III National Swimming Champion including 5 National Records. Voted Most Valuable Swimming in 1981 and Senior Athlete of the Year in 1982 by Kenyon, such accolades lead him to his induction into the Kenyon College Athletic Hall of Fame in May 2002.

In addition to his coaching efforts, Parini has also made an impact in the community of Granville. He is the founder, owner and director of The Swimming Clinic, a clinic for age-group swimmers. He is a volunteer Youth Baseball and Hockey coach for both the Granville Recreation Commission and the Newark Ice Hockey Association. He has served as a Youth Group Leader for the Trinity Episcopal Church. Also in Granville, he is the co-founder and co-director of the Red, White and Hoops Basketball Tournament for the Granville Recreation Commission.

Coach Parini is currently a member of theCollege Swimming Coaches Association of America, the American Swimming Coaches Association, United States Swimming and the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

Parini currently resides in Granville with his wife, Alice, and six sons, Joseph, Solomon, Gabe, Andrew, Ted and Simon.
