Denison University has announced the hiring of Lynsey Pyle as head volleyball coach, replacing Sara Lee who has spent the last 18 seasons as the head coach. Lee will continue her role as the head women's basketball coach and associate professor in the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation.
Pyle, a 1999 graduate of Capital University, has served as the assistant volleyball and assistant softball coach at Denison since the 2001-02 season. Since 2001, Denison has posted 116 victories and a .627 winning percentage and has advanced to a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament finals (2001 & 2002). The DU volleyball program has enjoyed nine consecutive non-losing seasons.
Pyle will continue her role as assistant softball coach where, the program has reached new heights since its inception in 1997. Over the last six years the Denison softball team has averaged 24 victories a season and has two NCAC regular season championships, two NCAC Tournament titles and has advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament two times.
"We are very pleased to have Coach Pyle taking over as head coach of our women's volleyball program," said Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation Larry Scheiderer. "We look forward to Lynsey's leadership of the program and seeing Lynsey implement her plans as the program builds on the successes experienced under Coach Lee."
"Lynsey has been an outstanding department member and assistant coach for the past six years. With her coaching ability, recruiting expertise and administrative background, she moved to the top of our list of candidates as the department progressed through our extensive national search process," said Scheiderer.
A native of Heath, Ohio, Pyle is currently enrolled in Otterbein College's Master of Business Administration program and is on track to earn her MBA in the spring of 2008. She holds a bachelor's degree in business management with a concentration in human resources. A former standout catcher for the Crusaders, Pyle helped the team to 45 victories over her final two seasons at Capital.
