Denison University sophomore Katie Navarre (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) placed ninth at the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship which was hosted by Hanover College in Hanover, Ind. The ninth place finish was the best performance by a Denison runner at the national championship meet.
Navarre completed her brilliant 2008 season with a time of 21:17.30 and was just 33 seconds off the pace set by eventual national champion, Marie Borner of Bethel (Minn.). Navarre was named to the second-team All-America squad thanks to her performance. It is the fourth time in school history a Denison runner has landed on the All-America squad. Elaine Binkley was a two-time All-American in 2003 and 2004 and Julie Hufnagel was honored as an All-American in 2003. The previous best individual finish by a Denison runner at nationals was 22nd place by Binkley in 2003.
The team championship went to Middlebury who topped second-place Calvin by 56 points.
