The Denison women's cross country team opened the 2008 campaign with the Denison Fall Festival against the University of Rio Grande on Friday at Bryn Du Mansion in Granville.

Sophomore standout Katie Navarre (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) won the 14-person race with a time of 16:00, 20 seconds better than teammate sophomore Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East).

Junior Kelsey Pence (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) finished fourth with a time of 16:28, while first-year Victoria Pottieger (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) was sixth with a mark of 16:53 and sophomore Julie Rotramel (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette) was eighth with a time of 17:22.

The women's team returns to action on Sept. 13 at the Great Lakes College Association Championships hosted by Oberlin College.
