Big Red Women Ready For All-Ohio Championship

Date: October 5, 2006
Location: GRANVILLE, Ohio

The Denison women's cross country team will travel to Delaware Friday for the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Meet. Nearly every university in the state, from Division I to NAIA, will compete in the meet. The Big Red looks to win their fourth consecutive All-Ohio Championship. Since the meet split into divisional champions in 1997 there have been just two champions, Denison and Baldwin-Wallace. Leading the pack for the Big Red last year were Christine Collins (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/ Chagrin Falls) and Elaine Binkley (Columbus, Ohio/ Bishop Watterson). Collins raced to a fifth place finish in 19:22.3, followed by Binkley in 8th at 19:25.9. Led by Collins and Binkley, the Big Red returns five of last year's top seven runners in the race. Senior Ashley Albrecht (Gaithersburg, Md./ Magruder) finished 25th, sophomore Stephanie Dallas (Pepper Pike, Ohio/ Orange) came in 40th, and junior Kelly Jones (Richmond, Va./ Tucker) rounded out the top 7 in 61st place. The meet will be held on the grounds of Delaware's Theological School at the Dornoch Golf Club, the site of the 2005 NCAA Division III National Championships. The women's varsity race is scheduled to begin at 2:45 p.m., followed by the open race at 4:15. By Shea McMahon Sports Information Student Assistant
