The Big Red women's cross country squad will kick off the season on Friday (Aug. 31) at the Denison Fall Classic.

Despite losing three major contributors in Elaine Binkley, Ashley Albrecht and Christine Collins to graduation, the Denison women's cross country team returns a core of five seniors, two juniors and some talented underclassmen as they prepare for the start of the 2007 season.

Last year the Big Red turned in a fourth place finish at the North Coast Athletic Conference championships as they were paced by Binkley and senior Brittany Cerankosky. Cerankosky is the team's top returning letterwinner after her 18th place showing at the conference championships and her 49th place finish at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes regional.

Ceraknosky is joined by fellow seniors Heather Davidson, Christine Durkin, Stephanie Dallas and Kelly Jones.

Kathryn McDonnell turned in a 35th place finish at the conference championship a year ago and leads the list of returning juniors that includes classmate Kat Lenhart. Sophomores Kelsey Pence and Holly Christian enjoyed strong rookie seasons in 2006.Pence placed 21st at the NCAC Championship and crossed in 39th place at the NCAA regional while Christian placed 40th at the conference meet. Canton, Ohio native Kelly McCallin also returns to the squad for her second season.

First-year members for this year's team include Grace Kaminski, Kirby Mosenthal, Katie Navarre, Ashley Putnam and Julie Rotramel.

The season will begin on Friday, Aug. 31 when they host the Denison Fall Classic at the Bryn Du Mansion Grounds in Granville beginning at 6 p.m.
