Field Hockey: Denison falls to Centre in non-league match up

The Denison field hockey team suffered a 5-0 loss to Centre College on Saturday afternoon in Danville, Ky.

Centre's Teresa Johnston scored off back to back penalty corner passes from Rachel Watkins midway through the first half, helping their team to a 2-0 lead.  Beth Faulkner would add another score before the half, giving Centre a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission.

Three minutes into the second half Mary Kate Clodius scored off a Johnston assist and with just under 14 minutes to play, Centre's Faulkner would add her second goal of the day to end the scoring.

Denison attempted three shots on the day and took five penalty corners.  Kristie Hart (Blacklick, Ohio/Columbus Academy) started in goal for DU and posted seven saves in 35 minutes.  Freshman Kait Fiore (Milburn, N.J./Milburn) played the second half and turned in eight saves in her 35 minutes of action.

Centre's Patty Cowley recorded two saves and earned the shutout.

Denison falls to 2-5 with the loss and will return home to face The College of Wooster at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 24).
