Field Hockey: Denison blanks Oberlin in season opener
Date: September 04, 2008
Location: OBERLIN, Ohio
Molly McCue
Junior forward Molly McCue (Gibsonia, Pa./Aquinas Academy) scored two first half goals and first-year goalie Kristie Hart (Blacklick, Ohio/Columbus Academy) turned in a stellar 14 save performance in her first career start as the Big Red rolled to a 2-0 victory over North Coast Athletic Conference foe, Oberlin College.
The Denison offense made the most of their limited offensive opportunities as McCue broke the scoreless tie in the sixth minute off a pass by freshman Carly Tschantz (Omaha, Neb./New Trier). Twelve minutes later McCue would strike again, this time off a pass from Lauren Keny (Bexley, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) off a penalty corner. Despite taking just six shots over the course of the 70 minute contests, those two goals would be enough.
The Denison defense, namely Hart, would face a 32 shot barrage from the Yeowomen, only to be turned away each time.
The Big Red improve to 1-0 overall and in the North Coast Athletic Conference. They will continue with in conference play next Wednesday (Sept. 10) when they host Earlham College on the turf at Deeds Field Piper Stadium.
