Field Hockey: Efficient offense sends OWU past Big Red

Ohio Wesleyan scored two first half goals and would add a third early in the second half resulting in a 3-1 loss for the Denison Big Red on Thursday afternoon from Granville.

The Bishops took the early lead when Lilly Jianas scored in the 14th minute.  The next two goals would come off the stick of Christa Cocumelli in the 35th minute and the 42nd minute of play.

Denison cut the OWU lead to two with just under six minutes to play when junior Kristen Schneider (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) beat two Bishop defenders and slipped the ball past the goalie into the right corner of the cage.  The goal was the second of the season for Schneider.

DU outshot Ohio Wesleyan 10-5.  Krista Murray had four saves in 58 minutes in cage for Ohio Wesleyan.  Denison goalies Kristie Hart (Blacklick, Ohio/Columbus Academy) and Kait Fiore (Milburn, N.J./Milburn) split time in the cage for DU and totaled one save.

OWU improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  The Big Red falls to 2-4 and 2-1 in conference play.  DU will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 20) when they travel to Centre College.
