Field Hockey: Wooster slips past Big Red

The Big Red defense held strong through 47 minutes but The College of Wooster's Stephanie Standera broke a scoreless tie that would lead the Fighting Scots to a 2-0 victory over the Denison field hockey team on Wednesday afternoon in Granville.
The Fighting Scots were the agressor in the first half as they outshot the Big Red 7-2. The second half was a different story as Denison took control offensivley and had two excellent scoring opportunities turned away in front of the Wooster cage.
In the 48th minute the Scots broke trhough when Standera passed around her defender and scored from 5-yards out. Wooster would take a 2-0 lead in the 60th minute off a Amanda Artman transition goal.
Wooster goalie Madalyn Myers posted four saves in her 70 minutes of action while DU goalie Kristie Hart (Blacklick, Ohio/Columbus Academy) finished with eight saves. She also turned away a Wooster penalty stroke attempt in the second half.
Denison was led in shots by Molly McCue (Gibsonia, Pa./Aquinas Academy) who took three. Lauren Keny (Bexley, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) added two shots for the Big Red.
DU will be back in action on Saturday (Sept. 27) when they travel to Earlham College for a 12 p.m. start.
