Denison freshman Catie Merrick (Owings Mills, Md./Garrison Forest) was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week after leading Denison to a 2-1 record to open the 2009 season.

In her first collegiate game, Merrick scored the game winning goal in Denison's 4-3 victory over conference rival Wittenberg.  She followed that up with three goals in a 4-2 victory over Roanoke College.  For the week Merrick scored five goals and has helped Denison start the season with a 2-1 record.

The Big Red will open their home schedule this Wednesday (Sept. 9) when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 4:30 p.m.
