Big Red Field Hockey Blanks Hendrix in Opener

Sophomore Molly McCue netted her first career hat trick in Denison's 5-0 victory over Hendrix.
It took the Big Red 29 minutes to warm up to the 2007 season, but as the sun began to set over Deeds Field Piper Stadium DU took off, to the tune of five unanswered goals over the final 41 minutes resulting in a 5-0 victory against Hendrix College on Friday night.
Denison sophomore Molly McCue (Gibsonia, Pa./Aquinas Academy) had a spectacular opener as she netted her first career hat trick in the win. Caitlin Gilman (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day) got Denison going with 6:40 remaining in the match when she sent a shot, off a pass from Read Powel (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown), past Hendrix goalkeeper Alyssa Havens.
McCue would follow with the next three goals for the Big Red, two of which would be assisted by Powel, the other by Gilman. Denison's scoring was rounded out by first-year Liz Hubbard (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) in the 56th minute.
Denison outshot the Warriors 19-2 as Big Red goalie Halle Minshall (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) notched two saves.
The Big Red will travel to Salisbury, Md. next weekend (Sept. 8-9) where they will take on the host Sea Gulls, Eastern Mennonite and Brockport St.
