Field Hockey: Brokport Holds Off Late Big Red Charge

Denison's Kristen Schneider (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) scored off an assist by Read Powel (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation but that would be as close as the Big Red would get as SUNY-Brockport held off DU for a 2-1 victory on Sunday at the Salisbury Invitational.

Denison (1-3) finished the match with 10 shots and four shots on goal compared to 15 shots for Brockport. SUNY-Brockport's Allyson Granish scored the eighth minute, giving them a 1-0 lead. That held until the 25th minute when Jenn Danker scored off an assist by Jessica Spitali. Denison finished with 12 penalty corners to Brockport's 11 and first-year goalie Halle Minshall (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) posted five saves in the cage.

DU will open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they travel to The College of Wooster.
