GRANVILLE-- Taneen Legree scored twice for Ohio Wesleyan, including the game-winner with just over four minutes left in the second overtime resulting in a 2-1 victory for the Battling Bishops against Denison in North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey action from Delaware.
The loss drops Denison's record to 6-6 in conference play but after winning the conference tiebreaker against Kenyon, DU will advance to next week's NCAC Tournament as the #4 seed and will travel to #1 seed Oberlin College for a semifinal match next Wednesday, Nov. 2.
Legree put OWU up 1-0 in the fifth minute off an assist by Abbey Kelley. Denison's Read Powel (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) countered with her fifth goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1. It would remain that way until Legree's game-winner in the second overtime.
OWU edged Denison in the shot category, 16-15 but Denison won the battle of penalty corners 12-5. DU goalie Lolly Cunningham (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) had three saves in 85 minutes. Katie Jones had seven saves for Ohio Wesleyan.
