Field Hockey: Kenyon Hands Denison First Conference Defeat

Molly McCue scored her NCAC-leading 7th goal of the season on Tuesday.

Kenyon College win their fifth match of the season and improved to 4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference following a 3-1 victory over the Denison Big Red in women's field hockey action from Gambier.

The two teams played the first 36 minutes without a goal until 1:13 into the second half when Kenyon's Joy Leaman got her team on the board with an unassisted goal.  Eight minutes later Elisabeth Dow would find Lauren Keiling to put Kenyon on top 2-0.

Following Kenyon's second score DU would fight right back thanks to the seventh goal of the season by sophomore Molly McCue (Gbisonia, Pa./Aquanis Academy).  McCue is the conference leader in goals scored so far in 2007.

Denison would continue to attack the Ladies, outshooting them 16-14 for the game but Kenyon would tack on one final score in the waining minutes to set the final at 3-1.

Halle Minshall (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) posted six saves for the Big Red while Karen Thompson also stopped six shots for Kenyon.  DU led 11-5 in penalty corners and there were no defensive saves in the contest.

The Big Red will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22 when they host DePauw University at 10 a.m. in Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
