Allie DeFries fired an 80 and is your leader in the clubhouse after the opening round at the Mt. Union Invitational.
Junior Allie DeFries (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor) carded a career-low round of 80 and is tied with Ohio Northern's Ashley Johnson for the opening round's best score at the Mount Union College Spring Invitational from Tannenhauf Golf Course.
DeFries, who's previous best round was a 90 on two occasions, fired a two-over par 38 on the front nine and returned with a six-over par 42 on the back nine. Not only is DeFries' round a personal best, it is the lowest score carded by a Denison women's golfer since the program gained varsity status in the fall of 2006.
As a team the Big Red is in seventh place out of nine teams with a total of 380. Division II Gannon University leads the tournament with a team score of 331. Following DeFries was junior Megan Flemming (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) who carded a 91 to tie for 19th in the leaderboard. Junior Emily Stimpert (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) shot a 102 and Chelsea Lee (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) followed with a 107.
DU will close out the 36-hole tournament on Sunday at Tannenhauf.
