Women's Indoor Track & Field: Fugate, 4x200 relay lead Big Red at All-Ohio Pre-Meet

Victories by sophomore Ellen Fugate (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and the 4x200 relay team led the Denison Big Red to a sixth-place finish at the All-Ohio Pre-Meet hosted by Capital University on Friday in Bexley, Ohio. DU finished the event with 78.5 points.

Fugate won the 500-meter run with a time of 1:27.00, which was over a second faster then Capital's Christina Walker. The 4x200 relay team of Amanda Conley (Dublin, Ohio/Columbus Academy), Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East), Maggie Snyder (Elyria, OHio/Elyria Catholic) and Laura Wolgamott (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville) finished the event in 1:53.65 en route to a first-place finish.

In addition to their relay success, Snyder, Putnam and Conley also saw success individually. Snyder finished runner up in the 300-meter dash with a mark of 45.21 while Putnam was second in the 800-meter run at 2:38.96. First-year Anelia Mutafova (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) followed Putnam in the 800-meter run with a fifth-place finish (2:44.65). Conley recorded a time of 8.59 in the 60-meter dash, which was good enough for a fourth-place finish.

In the 1,000-meter run, sophomores Grace Kaminski (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and Julie Rotramel (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette) placed in the top ten. Kaminski finished second with a time of 3:45.07 while Rotramel was fourth at 3:47.26.

Rookie Jane Zelenkov (Englewood, Colo./Regis Jesuit) and junior Christy Conley (Rye, N.Y./Rye) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Zelenkov logged a time of 1:06.09 while Conley crossed the line at 1:06.72.

Junior Emily Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) finished second in the shot put with a heave of 34-03 while classmate Emily Hammeren (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) cleared 8-00 to finish fifth in the pole vault.

At Saturday's Division III All-Ohio Championships in Westerville, Ohio, sophomore Claire Navarro (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) competed in the triple jump. Navarro finished the event with a leap totaling 32-05.75, which was good enough for ninth place.

Denison returns to action on Saturday when they travel to the Kenyon Invitational.
