Women's Indoor Track & Field: Hammeren breaks school record at DU Last Chance Meet

Emily Hammeren broke the school record in the pole vault after clearing 10-07.00 at the Denison Last Chance Meet on Friday night.

Junior Emily Hammeren (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) and sophomore Claire Navarro (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) paced the Big Red at the Denison Last Chance meet on Friday evening in Granville.

Hammeren took first and broke the Denison school record in the pole vault with a clear of 10-07.00. Navarro notched a trio of top-five finishes throughout the night. The sophomore took second in both the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 15-08.25 and 33-03.25, respectively. Navarro also took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.07. Trailing her in the 200 were sophomores Maggie Snyder (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and Laura Wolgamott (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville) who finished fifth (28.24) and sixth (28.28).

Senior Amanda Conley (Dublin, Ohio/Columbus Academy) was runner up in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.88, while sophomore Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East) and junior Christy Conley (Rye, N.Y./Rye) took second and sixth in the 400 with times of 1:03.20 and 1:05.96, respectively.

In the shot put, first-year Katherine Sylvia (Butler, Pa./Butler) and junior Emily Handelman (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) finished second and sixth. Sylvia logged a toss of 34-04.25 while Handelman had a heave of 28-09.00.

The 4x200 relay team of Amanda Conley, Putnam, Snyder and Wolgamott took second with a mark of 1:53.42.

Denison returns to action when they host the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship on March 6-7.
