Women's Indoor Track & Field: Big Red place fifth at Greater Columbus

Denison University played host to the 2009 Greater Columbus Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon and the Big Red women's team placed fifth with 21 team points.
DU finished in front of Kenyon College but trailed Muskingum (41.5), Ohio Wesleyan (65), Capital (109.5) and Otterbein (194).
The Big Red were led by Ashley Putman (North East, Pa./North East) and Anelia Mutafova (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) who placed fifth and eighth, respectively in a highly competitive 800 meter race. Putnam crossed the finish line in 2:27.05 and Mutafova came in at 2:31.93.
First-year Ellen Fugate (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) posted a victory in the unscored 500 meter run with a time of 1:28.88 and Amanda Conley (Dublin, Ohio/Columbus Academy) picked up three points for her team by placing sixth in the 55 meter dash in 7.99 seconds.
In the shot put, Emily Taylor's (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) second throw of 10.20 meters placed her eighth out of 18 competitors. Grace Kaminski (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and Julie Rotramel (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette) round out the top performers for Denison with their fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively, in the women's 1,000 meters.
In both the 4x200 and the 4x400 relays DU placed third, earning six points for each finish.
Denison will compete next Friday at the Capital Invitational and then again on Saturday at the 2009 Division III All-Ohio Championships from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio.
