Women's Indoor Track & Field: Denison finishes fourth at Kenyon Classic

Emily Taylor led DU with a second-place finish in the shot put on Saturday.

The Denison women's indoor track and field team scored 40 points en route to a fourth-place finish at the Kenyon College Classic on Saturday in Gambier, Ohio.

Leading the for the Big Red was junior Emily Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) who finished second in the shot put with a toss of 10.85m. First-year thrower Katherine Sylvia (Butler, Pa./Butler) finished eighth in the shot with a heave of 10.39m.

Sophomore Claire Navarro (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) took fourth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump with leaps of 9.84m and 4.65m, respectively.

Sophomores Maggie Snyder (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East) both recorded fourth-place finishes at the meet. Snyder registered a time of 28.47 in the 200-meter dash while Putnam posted a time of 2:27.99 in the 800-meter run. Trailing Putnam in the 800 was  rookie Anelia Mutafova (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) who notched a time of 2:30.56, good enough for seventh place.

In the pole vault, junior Emily Hammeren (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) cleared 2.90m to finish sixth while first-year Ashlee Dickson (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) took eighth with a mark of 2.59m.

Other individuals finishing in the top eight for DU were sophomore Kirby Mosenthal (Briarcliff, N.Y./Irvington) and first-year Jane Zelenkov (Englewood, Colo./Regis Jesuit). Mosenthal finished sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:14.14 while Zelenkov was eighth in the 400-meter dash at 1:06.10.

The 4x400 relay team logged a time of 4:21.87 which was good enough for a fifth-place fininsh.

Denison returns to action on Friday when they host the Denison Last Change Meet. Events are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
