Ashley Putnam won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.87.

The Denison Big Red kicked off the 2009 indoor track & field season hosting the Denison Lid-Lifter at the Mitchell Recreation & Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon in Granville.

Sophomores Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East) and Laura Wolgamott (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville) led the Big Red with first-place finishes in the unscored event. Putnam won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.87 while Wolgamott was victorious in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 28.15. The Denison 4x400-meter relay team also took home victory finishing their race in 4:29.80.

Sophomores Claire Navarro (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) and Emily Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) both finished runner-up in their respective events. Navarro was second in the long jump with a leap of 15-11.00 while Taylor had a toss of 35-08.75 in the shot put. Navarro also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.37.

Juniors Maggie Snyder (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and Christy Conley (Rye, N.Y./Rye) finished third and fifth in the 400-meter dash with times of 1:04.89 and 1:06.00, respectively. The Denison 4x200 relay squad also took home third with a time of 1:58.97.

DU competes in the second part of a three part home stand when they host the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays on Saturday (Jan. 31). Events are slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
