Denison Women's Track & Field Places Fifth at NCAC Relays

The Denison women's indoor track and field team totaled 39 points to finish in fifth place at the nine-team North Coast Athletic Conference Relays at the Mitchell Center on Saturday.
Three newcomers in the pole vault and the shot put highlighted a productive afternoon for the Big Red. In the shot put relay, freshman Emily Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and Emily Handelman (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) placed fourth and fifth respectively and combined, finished second to add eight points to the Big Red's cause. Taylor finished with a throw of 34'4.25" and Handelman was right behind with a throw of 33'4.75".
In the pole vault, newcomer Emily Hammeren (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) cleared 9'0" to place second overall, behind Wooster's Ali Drushal who cleared 9'6". Denison's Rebecca Tidman (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) teamed with Hammeren to finish second in the event. She cleared 7'6" to finish tied for seventh overall.
The distance medley relay team of Kelly McCallin (Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas), Kristen Matthews (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), Kathryn McDonnell (Beverly Hills, Mich./Marian) and Christine Collins (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) turned in a third place showing with a time of 13:27.50 to earn six points toward the Big Red's cause.
The 800 sprint medley team made up of Amanda Conley (Dublin, Ohio/Columbus Academy), Courtney Alexander (Westfield, Ind./Westfield), Sarah Anderson (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) and Kat Lenhart (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) was fourth in 4:45.02 and the 4x400 relay team of Erin Davidson (Langhorne, Pa./Bensalem), Alexander, McDonnell and Collins was fifth in 4:30.12.
Rounding out the top finishers for DU was 5000 meter run relay duo of Kelsey Pence (Columbus, Ind./North) and Ashley Albrecht (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder). Pence placed fourth in the event with a time of 19:35.87. Albrecht followed in fifth place with a time of 19:44.95. The pair combined to finish second, behind only Ohio Wesleyan.
