Women's Indoor Track & Field: Allegheny out in front of after first night of NCAC's

Allegheny College took three of four championships on Friday night which has helped them to a two-point lead over Oberlin College heading into tomorrow's final day of competition.
Allegheny senior thrower Liz Earley locked up her second consecutive championship in the women's shot put with a throw of 41'11.75". In her four-year career, Earley has posted two conference championships and two second-place finishes in the shot put. This year's runner-up to Earley was Oberlin's Katahdin Cook who finished with a throw of 36'10.25". Allison Walker of Wittenberg came in third.
Two-time NCAC Field MVP Emily Pfeufer continued her string of championships in the women's triple jump. Pfeufer won her third straight triple jump title with a distance of 36'5". Coming in second with a jump of 35'5.75" was Ashley Shaffer of Ohio Wesleyan.
Another Gator took home the title in the women's pole vault as Sarah Sammel reclaimed the top spot after missing 2007 with an injury. Sammel, the 2006 champ in the pole vault cleared 10'8" to best Oberlin's Deysi Villarreal who cleared 10'4".
Oberlin gained some big points with first and second-place finishes in the women's 5,000 meters. Joanna Johnson nipped teammate Marie Barnett by under one second to claim the title. Johnsen's winning time was 18:14.99 while Barnett checked in at 18:15.52.
Saturday's final day of competition will resume at 10:30 a.m. and will continue through the awards ceremony at 5:45 p.m. Twelve event championships will be decided on Saturday. Complete results can be found here: NCAC Championship Home Page
