The Denison women's indoor track and field team competed in their first home meet of the 2008 season at the unscored Denison Lid-Lifter.
Sophomore pole vaulter Emily Hammeren (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) led a pair of Denison winners, clearing 9'6.25" in the vault. DU's other winner came from Amanda Conley (Dublin, Ohio/Columbus Academy) in the 55 meter dash. Conley logged a time of 7.84 seconds, which was the ninth fastest time in DU history. Teammate Claire Navarro (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamos) followed in second-place with a time of 7.90 seconds. Navarro also turned in a runner-up showing in the long jump with a distance of 15'2".
Freshman Laura Wogamott (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville) placed fifth int he 55 meter hurdles and Kat Lenhart (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) came in fourth in the 800 meters in 2:35.64. The 200 meter dash saw Ozzie Crump (Chicago, Ill./Wells) and Maggie Snyder (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Emily Handelman (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) edged teammate Emily Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) in the women's weight throw, but places were reversed in the shot put, with Taylor taking fourth and Handelman coming in fifth.
Denison will compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays next Saturday (Feb. 2) in Granville.
