With 2:30 left DU tied the game thanks to a goal by Carly Tschantz (Omaha, Neb./New Trier) and then with just 25 seconds left they took their first lead since the first half when Phoebe Myhrum (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) found Thurner for her seventh goal of the day.
Despite the go-ahead goal and just seconds left on the clock, Guilford rallied and tied the game with 10 seconds left in regulation when Shelly Nogueira scored her sixth goal of the game.
In overtime, the match would stay tied until Stathern found the back of the net off an assist from Michelle Bennett (Bronx, N.Y./Taft) with 1:29 left on the clock. The win improves Denison's record to 3-1 heading into tomorrow's match against the Sewanee Tigers.
