Alex Thurner scored two goals in Denison's 10-9 loss to Wooster on Saturday.

Wooster's Carly Carey scored the go-ahead goal with 10 seconds left in regulation, breaking a 9-9 tie, to lead the Fighting Scots to a 10-9 win over the Denison Big Red from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville.

It was a game full of streaks as Wooster jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening 15 minutes of play.  Denison would begin to chip away at that lead late in the first half thanks to back-to-back goals by Sara Langsam (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) and Alex Thurner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day).  Wooster's Cameron Simmons countered with a goal at the 6:13 mark of the first half to up their lead to 6-3.

Over the next 22 minutes of play would would last well into the second half Denison played some of their best lacrosse of the season.  Denison not only controlled possession and took care of the ball they would go on a six-goal streak, all of which went unanswered by the Scots resulting in a 9-6 advantage for Denison.  Three of those six shots were 8-meter attempts following a Wooster foul.  On the day, eight of the 19 goals scored in the contest came via 8-meter shot attempts.

Denison's final goal of their six-goal streak came from the crosse of Langsam.  On the ensuing draw the Scots took possession quickly and Britta Harman went down the middle of the field and scored, jolting some momentum back into her sideline.

A Hillary Darragh goal with 11:47 to play got the Scots within one and Carey's free position goal with 3:27 left tied the game.  The Big Red would take control of the draw and attempted to drain the clock to take the last shot before a potential overtime period.  With under one minute to play Wooster's Romy Eberle forced a Big Red turnover and scooped up the ground ball.  She got the ball into Big Red territory and Carey sealed up the victory with her wrap-around goal with 10 seconds left.

Wooster outshot Denison 27-19 and the Scots controlled 12 draws compared to nine for the Big Red. Thurner, Langsam and Phoebe Myhrum (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side) all finished with two goals for Denison.  Michelle Bennett (Bronx, N.Y./Taft) scored one goal and had one assist.

Wooster goalie Jamie Dannenberg had eight saves while Denison's netminder Amanda Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) finished with 11 saves.

Denison falls to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Wooster improves to 6-3 and 4-0 in league play.
