Big Red Women's Lacrosse Notches an NCAC Win in Meadville

The Big Red women's lacrosse team won their second consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference match-up on Saturday afternoon, downing Allegheny College 14-6. Denison took a 3-1 lead in the opening seven minutes of play thanks to a pair of Read Powel goals. They would go on to outscore the Gators 10-4 in the first half en route the eight goal victory. The DU scoring attack was balanced as three players posted hat tricks. Krissy Frost, Powel and Quinn Simmons all dropped in three goals apiece and Becca Schoenherr added two goals and two assists to lead the team with four points. Meg Wilcox chipped in two goals and Maggie Jaus had one to round out the Denison scoring. Denison outshot Allegheny 38-27 and finished with 26 ground balls to the Gators' 25. Lindsay Buhr scooped up a team-high eight ground balls and also led the team with four caused turnovers. DU posted a 16-6 advantage in draw controls led by Powel's season-high, nine draws. Allegheny was led by Christina Zanic's two goals. Meg Grossman posted three assists. In the cage, senior Carolyn Hicks posted 13 saves while allowing six goals. Allegheny goalies Lesley Stange and Rachael Coons split the game with Stange posting seven saves and Coons adding nine. Denison will return to action on Thursday, April 19 when they host Kenyon College at 4:30 p.m. The game will be played at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium and will be televised, on tape-delay by The Columbus Sports Network.
