Women's Lacrosse: Big Red explodes for 21 goals in win over Oberlin

After a 10-day layoff the Denison offense exploded in a 21-13 rout of Oberlin College on Tuesday afternoon at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.  The 21-goal effort was the most goals scored by a Denison team since April 16, 2005 against Puget Sound.

Denison scored 12 goals in the opening half and jumped out to a 7-1 lead after just seven minutes of play.  Senior Quinn Simmons (Medina, Ohio/Medina) scored all of her team-high five goals in the opening period helping DU to their large lead.  Following Simmons was senior Meg Wilcox (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) scored four goals and added one assist while Jenny Strathern (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and Lulu Carter (Greenwich, Conn./The Millbrook School) both netted three goals each.

Denison outshot Oberlin 41-22 and finished with 17 ground balls.  Junior goalie Amanda Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) made eight saves in the cage for DU.  Kaitlin Barrer and Kira Rivera split time in goal for Oberlin and combined for 12 saves.  

Denison improves to 2-4 with the win and is now 1-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.  The Big Red will travel to Geneva, N.Y. for the Heron Draw hosted by William Smith College.  DU will take on Colorado College on Saturday (April 5) and will face host, William Smith on Sunday (April 6).
