Women's Lacrosse: Big Red comeback attempt falls short at OWU
Date: April 26, 2008
Location: DELAWARE, Ohio
Denison put together a five-goal scoring run late in the second half but Ohio Wesleyan's nine-goal streak would prove to be too much to overcome as the Bishops captured the regular season North Coast Athletic Conference championship following a 13-7 win in Delaware.
The Bishops had a commanding 10-1 lead with 25:48 left in the contest but Denison made things interesting as Lindsay Howard (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Kelly Lengsfield (Rye, N.Y./Rye Country Day) scored to make it 10-3. Those two goals would be followed by three consecutive goals by senior Meg Wilcox (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) getting Denison within four with 6:30 to play.
After the Big Red took the ensuing draw, a foul resulted in a turnover, giving the ball to OWU who answered with a quick score, setting off a chain of three goals to seal the victory.
Wilcox led Denison with four goals and junior Amanda Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) posted five saves.
Denison will be the No. 2 seed in next weekend's NCAC Tournament that will be hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on May 2-3.
