Date: March 5, 2008
Location: GRANVILLE

Head coach Stephani Brzezowski returns for her eighth year leading the Denison women's lacrosse team and despite losing two conference players of the year and a four-year starter at goalie, the Big Red should be in the mix for their 16th North Coast Athletic Conference Championship.

Departed are last year's North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year Krissy Frost and the Defensive Player of the Year Lindsay Buhr along with goalie Carolyn Hicks.

Seniors Meg Wilcox (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and Quinn Simmons (Medina, Ohio/Medina) are the top returnning scorers to last year's squad that finished conference play with a 5-1 record.  Wilcox scored 34 goals and had a team-high nine assists while Simmons finished second on the team in goals with 39 and had two assists.

Helping on the scoring end will be senior midfield Katie Grunst (Pittsburgh, Pa./The Ellis School) and senior attack Anna Brandt (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights)

Senior Haley Stineman (Darien, Conn./Darien) was one of seven first-team All-NCAC picks last year and she returns to the midfield after posting 44 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.

Junior Amanda Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) transfered to Denison after spending two seasons at Division I Connecticut.  The high school All-American will take over in the cage for DU in 2008.  Joining Wilson will be new classmates Lindsay Howard (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), Michelle Bennett (New York, N.Y./Taft) and Katie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina).  Howard played in 12 games last year making five starts.  Bennett played and started all 15 games while scoring four goals and adding one assist to go along with 24 ground balls and 11 draw controls.  Kubasta also played and started all 15 games in the defense for DU.

The sophomore class is led by defensive starter Bethany Keller (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) who played in 12 games last year and is a projected starter in 2008.  Sara Langsam (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) played in five games as a rookie and should be looked to for a larger scoring role in 2008.  Emily Berges (Branford, Conn./Branford) and Maggie Jaus (Snyder, N.Y./Amherst Central) also played in 25 total games last year off the bench and will take on expanded roles as sophomores.  Second-year attacks Flannery Marley (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Megan Lafferty (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) will round out the returning players to this year's roster.

Brzezowski will also look to six first-years to contribute this season.  The 2008 season begins at home against RIT on Thursday (March 6).
