Women's Lacrosse: Whittier stops Big Red in OT

Whittier College scored the go-ahead goal with 1:53 left in the second overtime and added an insurance goal with 19 seconds left resulting in a 18-16 loss for the Big Red in California.

Denison led 8-7 at halftime and held a six-goal lead early on before the Poets went on a four-goal burst to end the first half.  After an Emily Berges (Branford, Conn./Branford) gave DU a one-goal lead with 3:22 to play in regulation, Whittier tied the game with 1:19 to play.  After two minutes of overtime Whittier took the lead but Big Red stayed alive with 11 seconds left thanks to another Berges goal this time off a feed from Lindsay Howard (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) that sent the contest into a second overtime.

In the second OT Whittier would score two goals to secure the win. Denison was led by Meg Wilcox (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and Jenny Strathern (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) who each scored four goals.  Quinn Simmons (Medina, Ohio/Medina), Sara Langsam (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends) and Berges all scored two goals apiece.  Wlicox and Howard led DU with two assists apiece.

Denison will take on Claremont-McKenna on Wednesday at 7 p.m. PST.
