Women's Lacrosse: No. 13 Herons pull away from Big Red in second half

Date: April 06, 2008
Location: GENEVA, N.Y.

Denison trailed 13th ranked William Smith by just two goals at halftime but the Herons came alive in the second half, scoring 13 goals to hand the Big Red a 21-8 loss in the final day of the Heron Draw.

DU jumped out to a 2-0 lead just three minutes into the game thanks to goals by Sara Langsam (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) and Meg Wilcox (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley).  William Smith would counter with four-straight games but Quinn Simmons (Medina, Ohio/Medina) would net her first of four goals on the day with12:30 left in the first half to cut the Heron lead to one.

Trailing by one with 1:05 left in the opening half, William Smith's Molly Fitzgerald scored via a free position attempt and that started a string of 14 consecutive goals by the Herons that would last until the 2:22 mark in the second half.

Simmons led Denison with four goals while Wilcox netted two goals and added an assist.  Simmons and Katie Kubasta both posted three ground balls and Hayley Stineman (Darien, Conn./Darien) caused three turnovers.

Junior goalie Amanda Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) posted eight saves in the cage for DU.  William Smith improves to 8-0 while Denison drops to 2-6.  They will return to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Thursday (April 10) when they travel to Gambier for a meeting with the Kenyon Ladies.
