Women's Lacrosse Runs Away From Oberlin

The Denison women's lacrosse team rallied from a two-goal halftime deficit, outscoring Oberlin College 11-3 over the final 30 minutes en route to the 18-12 victory over the Yeowomen. Trailing 10-9 with 21:28 left to play in the contest Denison proceeded to go on a 7-0 run over the next 16 minutes to lock up their second North Coast Athletic Conference victory of the year.

Becca Schoenherr got thing going with her second goal off the game and that was followed by a Krissy Frost score five minutes later. Quinn Simmons would net back-to-back goals at 13:39 and 11:25 and junior attack Meg Wilcox would trail with three consecutive scores to cap off the run. Frost led Denison with eight total points (five goals, three assists). Simmons and Schoenherr followed with four goals and Wilcox netted three goals and one assist.

Also getting into the scoring column was Michelle Bennett who scored one goal and had one assist. Read Powel also finished with one goal scored early in the first half and led the team with seven ground balls and seven draws.

Denison goalie Carolyn Hicks posted 14 saves in the cage and Denison outshot Oberlin 43-30. The Big Red took 18-of-32 draw controls and the Yeowomen committed three more turnovers than DU. The 18 goals was the most scored by a Denison team since a 19-5 victory over Kenyon on May 3, 2005.

The next game for Denison will be at Allegheny College on Saturday (April 14) at 11 a.m.
