Date: May 21, 2007
Location: NAPERVILLE, Ill.

Five Denison track and field athletes competed over the weekend at the Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central College in a last chance attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships. While the Denison contingent just fell short of their national qualifying times, all capped off their seasons with very strong showings. Senior Elaine Binkley (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) capped off a stellar career at Denison by shattering her own school record in the 10,000 meters by 25 seconds. Binkley ran a time of 36:52.45 to place fourth and just missed the national cut by three seconds. Another senior, Christine Collins (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) ran her final race with the Red and White and logged a time of 11:16.75 in the steeplechase to place 11th. On the men's side junior Joel Bendtsen (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) ran the second-fastest time in the school history in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:51.47. In the 800 meters, sophomore Lex Hultquist (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) turned in a time of 1:54.20 which is fifth best in the DU record books. Sophomore Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield) ran the 400 and 100 meter dash and placed 12th and 16th respectively. In the 400 he logged a time of 51.05 seconds and came back with a time of 11.23 seconds in the 100.
