Denison Women Take Fourth at NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

DELAWARE, Ohio-- The Big Red women's outdoor track and field squad totaled 83 team points and finished in fourth place behind Wooster (89.5), Ohio Wesleyan (138) and 2006 champion, Allegheny College (211) on Friday at the 2006 North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. The second day of competition saw seniors Brie Jaquette (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) and Meagan Coneybeer (Uniontown, Pa./Uniontown) placed second and third, respectively in the 100 meter hurdles. Jaquette edged her friendly rival by crossing in 15.91 seconds. Coneybeer was right behind in 16.06 seconds. Junior distance standout Christine Collins (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) placed second to Ohio Wesleyan freshman Catie Coleman in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:39.95. Another runner-up finish was earned by the Big Red in the 4x100 relay as the foursome of Jessica West (Youngstown, Ohio/Culver Academy), Amanda Conley (Dublin, Ohio/Columbus Academy), Maggie Hopf (Geneseo, N.Y./Geneseo Central) and Jaquette finished the sprint relay in 50.37. Wittenberg won the event with a time of 50.11 In the 4x400 relay the team of Sara Cahill (Dover, Ohio/Dover), Hopf, Collins and Abbey Valvano (Tunhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) placed fifth in 4:16.73. Cahill also turned in a strong fourth place showing in the 400 meter dash, logging a time of 1:02.82. In the 100 meter dash, West finished third in 13.20 and Conley was fifth in 13.31 seconds. The 200 meter dash saw Jaquette place sixth and West picked up one point for Denison with an eighth place finish. Junior Erin Davidson (Langhorne, Pa./Bensalem) was sixth and Coneybeer placed seventh in the 400 meter hurdles to round out the scoring members of the DU team on Friday.
