The 2007 women's outdoor track and field season got underway on Saturday at the William Welch Invitational hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Denison placed second with 44 team points. The Big Red tallied two first-place finishes and five second place showings on the day. Ozzie Crump (Chicago, Ill./Wells) took first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.02. Courtney Alexander (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) followed in second place in 1:05.13. DU's over win came from Emily Hammeren (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) in the pole vault after she cleared 8'6.25". Amanda Conley (Dublin, Ohio/Columbus Academy) posted a pair of second place finishes in the 100 and 200 meter dash's. In the 100 she crossed the finish in 12.59 seconds. It took her 28.97 seconds to complete the 200. Senior Christine Collins (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) was the runner-up in the 800 in 2:31.23 and she placed third in the 1,500. The 5K saw Brittany Cerankosky (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) place second in 19:21 and in the shot put Emily Taylor took second with a throw of 34'4.25". Freshman Emily Handelman (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) took third in the hammer throw, covering a distance of 96'7".
