Denison freshman Emily Hammeren flirted with the school record in the pole vault and Kelsey Pence took first place in the 5,000 meters as the Big Red women's track and field team placed seventh at the Kenyon Invitational on Saturday. Hammeren cleared 3.05 meters to win the event and land herself third on the school's all-time list of top pole vaulters. In the 5K, Pence recorded a time of 19:54.15 to finish 23 seconds in front of John Carroll's Julie Meyers. Other top finishers for the Big Red included Emily Handelman who placed third in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 30.48 meters. Emily Taylor took fifth in the shot put with a heave of 10.19 meters and Erin Davidson took sixth in the 400 hurdles. Also landing top-10 finishes were Amanda Conley who took seventh in the 100 meter dash. Ozzie Crump came in ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.76 and Kelly McCallin came in 10th in the 800. Kat Lenhart rounded out the top performances with a ninth place showing in the 1,500 meters.
