The 21st-ranked Denison women's soccer team exploded for three second-half goals en route to a 3-0 victory over Hiram College in their North Coast Athletic Conference opener on Saturday.

After a scoreless opening period, the Big Red wasted no time breaking the tie when senior Sarah Ash (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) found sophomore Jen Clemmer (Hixson, Tenn./Baylor School) for the go-ahead goal at the 49:48 mark. The score marked Clemmer's third of the season.

Not even a minute later at 50:38 Clemmer returned the favor when she assisted Ash on her fifth goal of the season to put DU up 2-0. The senior tacked on another tally in the 85th minute off an assist from junior Laura Kuehn (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington).

Denison outshot the Terriers 19-1 and committed just one infraction compared to Hiram's seven. Junior goalkeeper Courtney Cobb (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) recorded one save while Hiram netminder Emily Bristol stopped eight shots.

The Big Red improves to 7-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference. DU returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 8) when they host Oberlin College at 7 p.m.
