Sarah Ash netted her first career hat trick, helping the Big Red to a 7-1 win over Kalamazoo.
The 25th ranked Denison Big Red women's soccer team rolled past Kalamazoo on Saturday by a final score of 7-1 at MacKenzie Field in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Senior midfielder Sarah Ash (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) netted her first career hat trick and added one assist, while junior midfielder Anna Rusch (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) contributed two goals, helping Denison to seven unanswered goals and their second straight victory.
For Ash, the 2007 North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, it marked her third career multi-goal game. It also ran her season goal total to four. The Big Red entered the match with a 5-2-1 record and were averaging just over two goals per game. The seven goals were the most scored by DU this season and the most since an 8-1 win over Randolph-Macon in September of last season.
Rounding out the Big Red scoring attack were sophomores Kim Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and Jen Clemmer (Hixson, Tenn./Baylor School).
Courtney Cobb (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) played 61 minutes in goal and posted four saves. Freshman Kerrigan Dopp (McLean, Va./McLean School of Md.) finished off the final 29 minutes and did not allow a goal. DU outshot the K-Zoo 25-6 and out-cornered their opponents 12-4.
Denison improves to 6-2-1 and will return to the field next Saturday (Oct. 4) when they travel to Hiram College for a NCAC contest at 1 p.m.
