The 19th ranked Denison Big Red handed the Nazareth College Golden Flyers a 3-0 loss on their home field in the opening match of the Nazareth Invitational on Saturday in Rochester, N.Y.
The Big Red got on the scoreboard early as Maggie Hoskin (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmor) sent a shot past Nazareth's Hillary Simon after receiving a pass from sophomore forward Jen Clemmer (Hixson, Texas/Baylor School). The goal was Hoskin's first of the year.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Big Red until the 33rd minute when Hoskin sent the ball to Kim Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) who converted for her second goal of the year. The Big Red would tack on their third and final score in the 70th minute when Clemmer found Oshita again.
Denison outshot Nazareth 20-9 and limited the Golden Flyers to just two shots on goal, each of which were turned away by DU goalkeeper Courtney Cobb (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy). Anna Rusch (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) led Denison with six shots while Hoskin had five.
Denison will now gear up for 17th ranked William Smith tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Rochester.
