Women's Soccer: Transylvania outlasts the Big Red

Transylvania University took a lead in the sixth minute on Saturday and manged to hold off a second-half push by the Big Red, resulting in a 2-1 upset by the Pioneers over 17th ranked Denison.

Transy's Lauren Duvall gave her squad an early lead when she scored to the lower left corner just 5:08 into regulation.

The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Pioneers until Katie McKelway booted a free kick past the DU goalkeeper with 34 minutes left in the contest.

DU would cut the Transylvania lead in the 77th minute when Sarah Ash netted her first goal of the season.  Denison's Anna Rusch would get two shots off over the final three minutes but neither would knot the score.

Denison would out shoot Transylvania 12-7 with seven of those shots going on-goal.  Five of the Pioneer's seven shots were on-goal.  DU also won the corner kick battle 7-2.  Goalkeeper Courtney Cobb played all 90 minutes for Denison and posted three saves.  Transy's keeper, Cori Hickman, notched six saves.

The Big Red fall to 4-1 with the loss while Transylvania improves to 4-2.
