Kimmi Oshita notched her third game-winning goal of the season in DU's 3-1 victory over Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday.
Sophomore Kimmi Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) scored two second-half goals to help the 13th-ranked Denison women's soccer team earn a 3-1 Homecoming victory over the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse on Saturday afternoon. The win marked the seventh straight for the Big Red and improved their record to 11-2-1 on the season.
Denison took an early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of play on a goal by freshman Angie Coderre (Flossmor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmor) off a corner kick from senior Sarah Ash (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore). The freshman headed the ball across the goal into the right corner of the net for her first collegiate score.
Oshita registered her first goal of the contest at the 51:20 mark when junior Julie Dean (Liberty Township, Ohio/Mt. Notre Dame) threaded the ball through the Wisconsin-La Crosse defense. Oshita took the ball and fired a shot into the lower left corner for her ninth tally of the year.
The Eagles were able to cut the deficit in half when Ramsey Weyenberg sailed a shot into the upper right corner of the goal past a jumping Courtney Cobb (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) in the 56th minute. Weyenberg had a chance to tie the game on a potential breakaway with 29:40 left in the second half, but a great play by Cobb to clear the ball preserved the DU lead.
Oshita tacked on an insurance goal in the 77th minute when goalie Sagan Pizzingrilli mishandled a save attempt. The sophomore headed the loose ball past the goalkeeper to solidify the Big Red victory.
Denison outshot La Crosse 24-6 and attempted 10 corner kicks to the Eagles' one. Cobb made one stop while Pizzingrilli corralled eight saves. Wisconsin-La Crosse starting goalie Amanda Clark made two saves but left the game in the eighth minute due to an injury.
The Big Red resumes North Coast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday (Oct. 21) when they travel to Kenyon College. Match time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
