Women's Soccer: #12 Denison shuts out Kenyon

Freshman Meg Polite put the Big Red up 2-0 in the first half with her second goal of the season.

Denison jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back, dropping the Ladies of Kenyon College 3-0.

The Big Red got on the board in the game’s 13th minute as junior Sarah Ash (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) sped through the Kenyon defense and dropped a pass to a trailing Jessie Birdwhistell (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) for the score.

Eleven minutes later, freshman Meg Polite (San Anselmo, Calif./Marin Catholic) headed in a corner kick in a scramble in front of the net to give the Big Red a two goal lead that would hold through the half.

Denison would hop on the board early in the second half as well as sophomore Anna Rusch (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) made a move to lose the Kenyon defender and nail a deep goal from outside the box, pushing the final spread to 3-0.

Denison out shot Kenyon 25-7. Freshman Jen Clemmer (Hixson, Tenn./Baylor) led the offensive attack with eight shots, four on goal. Liz Gillette (Chardon, Ohio/NDCL) recorded a pair of saves in goal while Rosie Davis stopped eight for the Ladies.

The Big Red will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Columbus for a 7 p.m. with Ohio Dominican.
