Women's Soccer: Big Red down Rose Hulman 1-0 in First Round of NCAA

The Big Red women's soccer team advanced to the second round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship with a 1-0 win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo.

Denison outshot Rose-Hulman, 8-3, in the first half and found the back of the net in the 35th minute from the lone goal of the game.  Jessie Birdwhistell (Lexington, Ky./ Henry Clay) took a pass from Maggie Hoskin (Chicago, Ill./ Homewood-Flossmor) and fried a shot from 20 yards out to the far post for her fourth goal of the season.

The Big Red outshot the Fightin' Engineers 12-7 and outcornered them 9-1.

Big Red keeper Liz Gillette (Chardon, Ohio/NDCL) recorded four saves while picking up her 14th win of the season.

Denison improves 14-5-2 and will take on #10 ranked Washington University on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. EST.  Rose Hulman, winners of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, finishes the season at 19-3.
