Date: November 11, 2007
Location: ST. LOUIS, Mo.

Washington University scored two first half goals and added a third late in the second half en route to a 3-0 victory over the Denison Big Red in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.

The loss ends Denison's season one round shy of advancing to their third consecutive NCAA Sectional Semifinals (sweet 16) and closes out their year with a 14-6-2 ledger.

The Bears got on the board first, in the 14th minute when Therese Fox found Marin McCarthy who volleyed to ball to the near corner of the goal for the score.

Three minutes later the Big Red were on the attack when freshman forward Kim Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) sent a shot on-goal that was saved by Washington goalkeeper Carrie Sear.  Another would-be scoring attempt by the Big Red would be turned away by Sear in the 27th minute when Maggie Hoskin (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmor) threatened to tie the game at 1-1.

Six minutes before halftime the Bears took a 2-0 lead when Caryn Rosoff sent a pass to Becca Heymann who one-timed for her ninth goal of the season.  The assist was Rosoff's fourth in the last two contests.

In the second half the Big Red outshot Washington U. 7-5 but Rosoff would strike again in at the 81:22 mark with a breakaway goal.

DU outshot the Bears 12-9 and both teams attempted one corner kick apiece.  Hoskin was Denison's shot leader with three, Sarah Ash (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore), Jessie Birdwhistell (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) and Anna Rusch (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) all took two shots each.

Senior goalkeeper Liz Gillette (Chardon, Ohio/NDCL) wrapped up a stellar four-year career in goal for the Big Red with four saves.  Gillette logged 7,461 minutes between the pipes since 2004, posting a career 0.63 goals against average, 249 saves and 38 shutouts.

The Denison senior class which consists of Kia Anderson (Princeton, N.J./Princeton), Jessie Birdwhistell , Kim Cochran (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington), Gillette and Laryn Kovalik (Allison Park, Pa./Shady Side Academy) has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three of their four seasons in Granville.  The fivesome has also totaled a career record of 60-19-9 for a .733 career winning percentage.

Washington University advances to the sectional semifinals where they will face #3 The College of New Jersey at a site yet to be determined.
