Women's Soccer: Big Red tripped up by Ohio Dominican
Date: October 06, 2007
Location: COLUMBUS, Ohio
It's not everyday that two #12 ranked teams in the nation meet up. Denison, ranked 12th in the latest NCAA Division III top-25 coaches poll traveled to Ohio Dominican University, ranked 12th in the latest NAIA coaches poll and thanks to an own goal, the Panthers came away with a 1-0 win over the Big Red.
Ohio Dominican's Katie Newton attempted a shot in the 62nd minute and it banged off a Denison player and into the goal for the game's only score. Denison has three losses in 2007 and two have come via own goals.
With just over four minutes left in the second half, Denison's Sarah Ash (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) appeared to have scored and tied the game at 1-1 but the goal was waved off by the referee.
Liz Gillette (Chardon, Ohio/NDCL) posted four saves in 90 minutes while Krisse Sparks saved eight shots for Ohio Dominican. Denison outshot ODU 14-11 and out-cornered them 5-4.
