Sam Rumschlag allowed just four hits and stuck out two in DU's 5-1 game-two victory over Allegheny on Saturday.

The Denison softball team continues to sit atop of the North Coast Athletic Conference after splitting a doubleheader with Allegheny College on "Senior Day" from Granville. The Big Red struggled in an 8-0 game one loss to the Gators but turned the tables in the nightcap with a 5-1 victory.

DU had no answer for the potent Allegheny offense in the opener. The Gators scored eight runs on 15 hits in the victory. Katie Wills went 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Marci Potuzko and Allison Piper each had a pair of hits and drove to runs in. Five AC batter finished the game with at least two hits.

Alex Murray (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) went 2-for-3 with a double to lead DU at the dish. Junior Leslie Brenner (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) suffered the loss allowing eight runs (six earned) with four strikeouts.

The Big Red turned the tables on Allegheny in game two as they pounded out 13 hits in the win. Holding onto a slim 2-1 advantage, Denison broke the game open in the fifth with back-to-back-to-back RBI hits. Junior Brie Berkopec (Mars, Pa./Mars Senior) started things off with an RBI double to left center that plated sophomore Erica Evans (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington). Junior Sam Rumschlag (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral) followed that up with a single to center that pushed Murray across the dish. After a pitching change, first-year Hannah Price (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) completed the offensive outburst with base hit down the right field line the scored Berkopec.

After surrendering a run in the top of the first, Rumschlag tossed six scoreless innings en route to her eighth victory of the season. Rumschlag retired 14 straight batters before one reached via error in the seventh frame. The junior hurler responded by getting Liz Burr to pop out to the shortstop and Amanda Downey to fly out to the left fielder to end the contest. Rumschlag scattered just four hits and struck out two in seven innings of work.

Berkopec went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored while senior Mary Beth Krolikowski (Brunswick, Ohio/Holy Name), Evans, Price and junior Emily Croll (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Oak Harbor) all finished with two hits. Evans and Croll each logged a double in the win while Evans scored twice.

DU is now 15-12 on the year and leads the NCAC with a 7-1 mark. The Big Red return to action on Monday when they host Defiance at 3:30 p.m.
