Softball: Three named to All-Region team

Senior outfielder Mary Beth Krolikowski (Brunswick, Ohio/Holy Name), junior catcher Brie Berkopec (Mars, Pa./Mars Senior) and first-year second baseman Lauren Lynn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) were all named to the 2009 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Central Region second-team after helping lead Denison the North Coast Athletic Conference regular season championship.

Krolikowski finished the season with a .386 batting average (56-for-145) with six doubles, four triples, two home runs, 32 runs, 23 RBIs and a .524 slugging percentage. Coming off her most productive season, the first-team all-conference choice finished her career at Denison ranked fourth in triples, home runs and slugging percentage (.421), and fifth with a .317 career batting average.

Berkopec hit .386 (49-for-127) with 13 doubles, nine home runs, 89 RBIs and 22 runs scored. The two-time all-NCAC selection also compiled a .701 slugging percentage, a .974 fielding percentage, carried a 13 game hitting streak and had 14 multi-RBI outings. The junior set a new Denison single-season home run mark while her slugging percentage and RBI total both rank second in school history. Berkopec also currently holds the school's career home run record with 15 long balls.

Lynn earned an at-large spot after leading the Big Red with a .437 (52-for-119) batting average with 11 doubles, 23 runs and 20 RBIs. The rookie drew a team-high tying 14 walks, had a .555 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. The second-team all-league selection and NCAC all-tournament team choice set new school single-season marks in both batting average and on-base percentage.

Denison went 21-18 overall and 11-3 in the NCAC en route to their sixth NCAC regular season crown and fifth-consecutive NCAC Tournament appearance.
