Brie Berkopec hit three home runs against Oberlin on Saturday.

Brie Berkopec (Mars, Pa./Mars Senior) hit three home runs and the Big Red pounded out 24 runs off 36 hits which resulted in a pair of 12-0 victories for Denison against Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon.

In game one Denison took a 11-0 lead after just three innings and starting pitcher Leslie Brenner (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) allowed just one hit in five innings of work.  Five different DU hitters had three hits in the opener while Berkopec went deep in the first inning.

The second game went a little differently but had the same result.  Holding a 4-0 lead heading into the final inning, the Big Red exploded for eight runs in the seventh to seal-up a 12-0 victory.  In that eighth inning Berkopec homered twice and Alex Murray (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/NDCL) stroked a two-run shot, her third of the season.  Sam Rumschlag (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral) picked up the complete game, shutout victory to improve to 10-5.

Despite the home run heroics of Berkopec and Murray, freshman Lauren Lynn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) had the best day at the plate.  She raised her batting average to .449 by going 7-for-8 with one walk, two RBIs and three runs scored.  Senior centerfielder Mary Beth Krolikowski (Brunswick, Ohio/Holy Name) finished the day 5-for-10 with one home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.

The win runs their current winning streak to five games and improves their overall record to 19-12.  With four games remaining in North Coast Athletic Conference play, the Big Red sit atop the conference standings with a 9-1 record.
