DateApril 5, 2009
LocationWASHINGTON, Pa.

Washington & Jefferson College engineered two come-from-behind victories en route to pulling off a doubleheader sweep of the Denison University Big Red. The Presidents edged DU in the opener 8-7 and a four-run rally in the top of the seventh pushed W&J to a 5-3 win in game two.

Denison lead the entire first game until a one-out RBI double by Kelly Morrow gave Washington & Jefferson the 8-7 advantage. The Big Red was able to get the tying run in scoring position in the top of the seventh but couldn't come up with the base hit to drive her in. First-year Lauren Lynn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored while junior Emily Croll (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Oak Harbor) was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double two RBIs and two runs. Sam Rumschlag (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral) took the loss and fell to 6-5 on the year. Rumschlag allowed eight runs (five earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts.

In game two, DU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a two-run homer to left by Lynn. After cutting the deficit in half in the fifth, the Presidents' Katelynn Falleroni belted a three-run bomb which capped off a four-run W&J seventh. The Big Red pushed one run across in the seventh but failed to keep the rally going as they dropped a pair to Washington & Jefferson.

Lynn and Rumschlag both went 3-for-4 in the nightcap. Lynn drove in two and scored once while Rumschlag added another tally. Leslie Brenner (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) gave up five runs on eight hits with four Ks in the losing effort.

DU falls to 12-11 overall and resumes North Coast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday when they host Kenyon College at 3:30 p.m.
